Hi. Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to create a playlist in Winamp? Thanks.

Creating a playlist with Winamp can be done several ways, just like with other media players.
The first way is to create files that have the songs you want in them. Example, in your music folder selects several songs you want than copy them to your created file, “rock playlist.” You can now play that file. Hit your applications key and or shift F 10 to open up that dialogue and arrow to select “play in Winamp.” All the songs in that list will now play.
The next method is to Open Winamp. I use Oat L to open the library. If you shift tab you’ll find the library button. Click it, arrow to new playlist, click it, name it. Now that playlist appears in your library. Under library you’ll also find manage playlist and if you click that you can change them.
The last method is a bit more difficult. Under a song in your library if you tab you’ll find generate playlist. If you click that you’ll find options for doing so.
I like the first method best. I think it is just easier.
All these directions assume you understand how to use your player, so I haven’t given much detailed information on how to actually get places. Hope this helps.

Winamp actually has a very nice little play list editor built into it too which is very accessible. Alt+E will open it for you and then you have to CTRL+Tab to cycle through your open Winamp windows until you get to it. Once you're in it you can manipulate things very easily. Press the letter L if you wish to add single files, Shift+L for folders. Your up and down arrow keys instead of adjusting the volume will navigate up and down the list of songs that you have added to the playlist when in the editor. If you decide that you're not happy with the order of the playlist it is also very simple to move tracks up or down that list. Simply arrow to the track you wish to move and then use your arrow keys in conjunction with the Alt key to move the item up or down to where you want it.

When you have everything as you'd like it CTRL+S will bring up the save dialog for you so that you can create an M3U file which is just a little playlist file. Then in future if you want to listen to that playlist again all you have to do is hit enter on that M3U file and Winamp will immediately open up with all of those songs opened and in the order that you selected.

I should just add that those instructions do pre-assume that you are using Jaws. I'm not sure how, or indeed even if the playlist editor works with other screen readers.

Hope some of that helped.

Dan.

Yes that works great. I didn't think to post about that due to her wishing to create them.

It should be pointed out to make sure your files dont move, if you expect the playlist to continue to work.

Well, I'm not using Jaws, but I still want to try and see if the playlist editor works once I make one.
